These objects were made to float in the air in a stable manner, using stainless steel pipes of an arched shape to support them, since the lighting and the mirror had substantial weight to keep them floating in the air, the weight was carefully caculated using the structural mechanics system, and accordingly to the calculation, the marble cubes were constructed to ensure stable support.

All the while in fear of descent

All the while in fear of descent

In this work I aimed to express the process of carrying a heavy burden to the end in three stages, making people’s eyes to naturally flow from the object hanging on top to the object standing on the floor.

This work was for my graduation exhibition (bachelor’s degree), completed by my own woodworking. I put focus on two properties, heaviness and directionality, and applied these qualities to the inner dimensions of an individual. It visualizes the notion of gravity as a law of nature—that with heavier weight, matter will eventually hit the ground—and projects it onto the aftermath an individual would face when they cannot help but bear negative, traumatic burdens in life.

The three objects I chose were lighting, a mirror, and a bench. The reason for choosing these three was to show “the process of an individual’s inner self that is bright, confronted, and finally calm and settled down.” These objects were made to float in the air in a stable manner, using stainless steel pipes of an arched shape to support them.

The purpose of this work, with its more or less conceptual themes, was to enable each visitor to experience their own individual heaviness as they stared at my work for a long time in the exhibition space. Things that seem hard and heavy when seen from the outside will surely, in the end, be interpreted differently and provide comfort as time passes and secrets are revealed.
